Short bio

Alexandra Tzilivaki, received her BSc and MSc in Biology, with honors, from the University of Crete in Greece. She is currently a Ph.D. candidate researcher in the laboratory of Prof. Dietmar Schmitz, Ph.D. at Charite Medical School Berlin in Germany. She is also a member of Dr. Panayiota Poirazi's Laboratory in IMBB, FORTH in Greece. Alexandra is especially interested in understanding the contribution of interneurons in learning and memory processes with an emphasis on dendritic functions and hippocampal oscillations, via the utilization of modeling and experimental approaches. Her work has been supported among others by the Einstein Foundation, by the Onassis Foundation, and by Google.

Short bio

Spyridon Chavlis, received his M.Eng. from the National Technical University of Athens (NTUA), his M.Sc. from Imperial College London and, and his Ph.D. from the University of Crete in Computational Neuroscience under the supervision of Dr. P. Poirazi. He is currently a postdoctoral researcher in IMBB, FORTH in Crete, Greece. Spiros is interested in understanding the role of large scale network dynamics in spatial memory encoding and in improving the current state-of-the-art Deep Learning architectures that incorporate rules inspired from the mammalian brain. His work has been supported among others by the Stavros Niarchos Foundation.
